Earning Money With Your Digicam

Taking photos with a digicam is a hobby to many people around the world. There are plenty of opportunities to actually earn some money by simply taking pictures. If you have an eye for photography - and those pictures everyone talks about and loves says you do - then you could start picking up some extra cash by simply using your camera. You do not need to be a professional or even have taken photography classes. You don't even need a lot of expensive equipment. All you need is a good digital camera, some imagination, and a steady hand.

Take your digicam wherever you go and practice taking a variety of pictures. Shoot landscapes or animals, buildings, flowers, abstract art, people...it doesn't matter what you take a picture of. It could be the most boring thing on the face of the earth. What does matter, however, is the presentation. Make the pictures interesting. Practice by snapping so many pictures in a day that you fill up the chip on your camera. If you have a 2GB chip, you can take close to 600 high-resolution pictures a day. And when you download the pictures from your digicam, you'll find plenty that you want to keep.

The beauty of a digicam is that you can delete the pictures you don't like either from the camera or from the computer without shelling out development money. This is why you should also feel free to play with some of the different picture taking options your camera gives you. Try taking a picture in black and white or sepia tones. See what the difference between the actions (or sports) and plain portrait setting is. Try the nighttime setting. Don't be afraid of exploring the options on your camera. If you know your camera well and what it is capable of doing, you'll be able to take more interesting photos when you start trying to earn some money.

Obviously running your own photography studio may not be the most lucrative venture right off the bat. But there is nothing that says you have to be limited to taking portrait photos. Start out by taking some photos of local landmarks and offering them for sale on places such as e-Bay for the cost of printing or processing the picture and adding an inexpensive frame to it. Offer to shoot some pictures of your next door neighbor's daughter's birthday party, or for a friend's family reunion. If you pick up a professional client, always make sure you take photos at different angles so that you get a wide variety to choose from.

Finally, take some of your favorite photos and post them on the Internet at places like TodaysPhotos.org. This can help get you some exposure as a photographer and maybe even a couple of paying jobs to get you started.

Web Cameras

I have to give it up for technology. Just when I think things are getting good, something even more amazing hits the market. I can still recall when cable high-speed Internet was new and all the rage. The first time I tried it I was astounded. Holy moly; could the World-Wide-Web really move this fast? I had been so accustomed to dial-up. Suddenly I was spoiled rotten with my new cable service. Not too long down the road, web cameras were everywhere. Pretty much everyone was buying a webcam to attach to their desktop PC. Why? Well, the reason is obvious. Now we could see the folks we were chatting with. This was an awesome nuance. Then before we knew it, the high-tech webcam was being used for something else. Something not so innocent. I guess good wholesome use was too much to ask for.

There is a major downside to the Internet and the peripherals we routinely make use of. Some deviant characters are using them for exploitation of minors, fouls broadcasting, and countless other ways to make cash. It seems kind of funny, but every time something is created, some folks will look for negative ways they can take advantage of it. Advanced web cameras are no exception. While they work great for business meetings, and friendly chatting, they can also be used in a criminal fashion. The sad part is that there's no way around this. We simply have to learn to accept the bad with the good.

More and more web cameras are becoming a standard part of PCs and Macs. I noticed that the latest Mac notebooks have the web cameras built in. This is outstanding. Naturally the prices of these machines went up as well. But that's to be expected as machines and gadgets are updated. If you're looking to purchase any web cameras, you may want to start with EBay.com. Virtually everything you can imagine is found on this vast auction website. In all likelihood you'll find web cameras at a lower cost when you shop on EBay. Just remember when you do and don't have you webcam turned on. If you saw "American Pie," you surely know what I mean.

Polaroid instant cameras

I remember just how cool Polaroid instant cameras were when I was a kid. For those of you who don't know, the Polaroid instant camera was the end all and be all of film before high tech digital cameras came around. A Polaroid film camera was basically an entirely analog way to get instant pictures. They were so cool. You can still see them some places. Basically, with Polaroid instant cameras, you snap a picture and the film comes out. You then shake it, wait 30 seconds, and you have a fully developed picture.

It was really neat to see the film developed from the instant Polaroid cameras. What it first came out of the camera, it was nothing but a glossy, white, blank piece of film. Slowly, however, the Polaroid instant camera image would form. The first thing you would see was the shadowy outline of everything in the picture. Then, slowly, the details would emerge. Polaroid instant cameras do not have the best quality pictures, but they were so high tech and amazing that it did not matter. They were almost indispensable for any place where you needed to have your picture ready as soon as you took it.

The only drawback with Polaroid instant cameras was that the film was so expensive. I don't remember exactly how much it was, but it was on the order of close to a dollar a shot, I believe. No one really wanted to pay this much money for their pictures. Anyway, you can get better pictures from a normal film camera. Nevertheless, when I was a kid, we always wanted my dad to use the Polaroid instant cameras. It was a special treat for us. It almost looked like magic the way that the image would form before our eyes.

I have heard that they make Polaroid digital cameras nowadays, but I can't think of the purpose. After all, with a digital camera you can get an immediate, high-quality image. It is much cheaper, and it looks a lot better. I suppose that the only time that you would need a Polaroid instant camera would be if you could not carry a printer around with you, and needed a permanent copy of your image immediately. For most of us, however, Polaroid instant cameras have outlived their usefulness. Although I don't usually miss Polaroid instant cameras that much, every once in awhile I do. After all, they were pretty cool.

Water proof digital cameras

If you spend any time out on the water in a boat you’ve probably found it difficult to take along your camera. Water and electronics generally don’t mix. The problem with that is taking pictures to remember your adventure just isn’t possible without risking ruining your camera. That’s not the case with water proof digital cameras. These can be toted along on any boat trip without fear of damage occurring.

They can also generally be used in inclement weather. Sometimes we’re caught out in the rain while sightseeing and with a regular camera we just can’t take the pictures we want to. With water proof digital cameras, you can use it in both rain and snow to capture all the moments you want. It’s obviously not recommended that you leave it out in the rain, but knowing that it can withstand moisture makes this a great investment.

Taking one into the water is a little different story. If you enjoy scuba diving or snorkeling you need to consider buying one of the waterproof digital cameras that is also suitable for underwater use. These often come with a waterproof case that acts as an extra barrier against the water. Not all cameras that are waterproof can go below the surface so before you decide to do it, ensure it can withstand it.

Each model has different features and typically the more extras you have on the camera the more you should expect to pay. Practically every one of the water proof digital cameras being sold today has a self-timer. This allows the user the chance to get themselves in the shot. Even a novice can master this feature.

Filming short videos can also be done with many cameras. This works great for people who want to capture something in the ocean on film. Many water proof digital cameras offer a feature that allows for longer filming times. If this is something you’d find useful, narrow your search to cameras that offer this.

Downloading and printing the images from the camera needs to be considered as well. If you aren’t all that computer savvy purchase one of the water proof digital cameras that just plugs directly into the USB port of your computer. Many models also have a removable memory card which lets you take the card to a photo shop for them to print for you.

There’s no reason not to capture all the great moments you enjoy in the water on a digital camera. Just be certain that the model you buy has everything you need to take beautiful pictures.

Used Digital Cameras

Used Digital Cameras

If you want to get a digital camera, but you don’t have enough money for the model you really want, you should consider looking used digital cameras. You can quite often find a great model for a great price, and it will work just as well as if you had bought one at full price. There are many places to get them, and you do have to take extra time to make sure the one you are looking at is indeed in good shape. You might even want to buy one with a known defect if you think it will be easy and cheap to get it fixed. You should be able to save even more money that way.

One of the first places to look for good used digital cameras might be on eBay. You will probably find hundreds from which to choose, but make sure you read the fine print. Sellers are not allowed to sell something that has a defect without stating as much, and they normally will list all problems with used digital cameras, if any in fact exist. If you are sold a camera on eBay that is not as promised, you should be able to get your money back as long as you have used a credit card or Paypal to pay for the purchase.

Don’t discount reconditioned items when looking for used digital cameras. I have a surround sound system in my house that we bought reconditioned. It has always worked very well, and we have had it for over ten years with no problems. One of the knobs is now not working well, but it has far outlasted its expected lifetime. You may also find that used digital cameras that have been reconditioned will have the same great qualities. These are always sold for less than the retail price, and are a great way to get a good item at an amazing discount.

If you do buy used digital cameras, remember that you may not have a warranty to cover any repairs. You will probably have to send them to the original company to get them repaired if you don’t have a qualified repair store in your area. Don’t worry, however, because you will probably get a good deal on repairs if you go to the manufacturer, and when you do, you know that they are best equipped to know exactly what is wrong and how to fix it.

Disposable cameras

When you head out for vacation the one thing you really don’t want to forget to bring along is a camera. It’s important to capture the fun and adventure of your trip so you can look back on it in the future. Many people consider bringing their expensive digital camera along, but what about one of the disposable cameras on the market? You’ll get great images plus you don’t have the extra worry about misplacing or damaging a pricier camera.

A lot of people are under the mistaken impression that a one time use camera isn’t going to produce quality prints. That was true years ago, when most disposable cameras came equipped with less than quality film and no flash. Today they are remarkably different and in some cases you can even produce digital pictures from a throw-away camera.

The price can be a drawback but it’s important to remember that you are paying for convenience. Consider the potential cost involved if you happen to be hiking in the mountains and you drop your digital camera. However, if you drop a disposable camera the only thing you are losing is the images you’ve already taken and the minimal cost of the camera.

Photography equipment is often lost or misplaced while a person is on vacation. It’s easy to leave it in a cab or forget your camera in a hotel room. If you are carrying your regular camera with you, the lost can be devastating. Disposable cameras, on the other hand, can be quickly replaced and there is little stress involved when they turn up missing.

Many brands also offer the convenience of developing costs included in the purchase price. This means that once you’ve purchased it you don’t have to incur any more expense to have the pictures developed for you. In fact, some disposable cameras come complete with an envelope that you place the camera into when you’re done taking all the pictures. You sent it away in the postage paid envelope and within a few days, you’ve got your prints back.

It’s a good idea to purchase a couple of these types of one time use cameras. It’s nice to have an extra in the home if someone is heading out to an event and they want to take pictures but they don’t want to take the digital camera. Disposable cameras do have a date on them which is provided to consumers as a method of telling them when the camera should be used by. Film does deteriorate over time so it’s a good idea to use the camera within a few months after you first buy it.
